Discovering STEM!

STEM—an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math—is a term that represents more than just academic subjects. It’s a gateway to curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving, preparing kids and adults alike for an ever-evolving world. For children, STEM education fosters critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the ability to adapt and innovate. Whether it’s building robots, experimenting with slime, or learning about ecosystems, STEM activities inspire a hands-on approach to learning that connects abstract concepts to real-world applications.

The Verde Valley SciTech Festival was born out of a shared mission: to bring STEM education to the forefront and inspire lifelong learning in the Verde Valley region. Over the years, it has evolved into a month-long celebration of science and innovation, uniting community organizations in a collaborative effort to ignite passion for STEM. From schools and nonprofits to libraries and local businesses, the festival brings the community together to showcase the wonders of STEM and its ability to transform lives.

This year’s SciTech Festival, which kicked off on February 1st, is supported by an incredible network of organizations, including the Community Library Sedona, the Sedona Heritage Museum, Verde Valley School, Yavapai College, and many more. These partnerships embody the true spirit of community collaboration and highlight the collective investment in education, curiosity, and exploration. A BIG shoutout to ACF – Sedona, Walmart, and the Burton Family Foundation for funding assistance!

At Community Library Sedona, the excitement for STEM continues throughout February with a slate of engaging and educational events for children and teens. Here’s a glimpse of what’s still to come and how these activities contribute to STEM learning:
