Third Anniversary Celebrated with New Hours at Village Library

According to Sheri C., a regular patron at Sedona Public Library in the Village, “The Village Library means EVERYTHING to those of us who have been patrons for years!” She is not alone in this sentiment.

What started as a book box in a grocery store in a non-descript strip mall in the Village of Oak Creek more than 20 years ago, is now, three years later, a busy, thriving, community library, providing access to programs, technology, books, and so much more. Happy Third Anniversary Sedona Public Library in the Village! What would we do without you?

On November 4, 2021, more than 200 people helped celebrate the new branch Library in the Village of Oak Creek. Seriously, Village Library, you don’t look a day over…well…three. It’s been a great three years, and much thanks to everyone who has helped make it happen. In that time the Library has grown, not only with the array of what is offered to the community but with the number of patrons served. Have you visited yet?

If you haven’t, you’re missing not only a fabulous community library, but one of the best views of Castle Rock! The Library is conveniently located in the Big Park Community School building at 25 Saddlehorn Road; and there are convenient NEW hours. You asked for it; you got it!

The Village Library is now open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Closed Sunday, Monday, and major holidays). What’s up this month? A ton! Keep reading.

There is free yoga on Fridays, October 11 and 18, at 1 p.m., when you can relax and get calm in the Javelina Room with Kimberly Sanchez of Prana of Sedona. Mats are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own, too. Don’t miss this opportunity to nurture your mind, body, and spirit right here at your neighborhood library!

Want to support the Village Library? Shop at Clark’s Market on Monday, October 14, when Clark’s will give five percent of every receipt to the Village Library! Your support makes programs like yoga, and more, possible! What else is there? Keep reading.

Want to catch a flick? Come by on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for our free Movie Matinees! See great first-run Hollywood hits—the line-up for this month is stock full of fun including animation enjoyed by kids and adults alike as well as westerns and more. And yes, there’s free popcorn! Bring a friend, get out of the heat for a while, and enjoy the movie. Visit communitylibrarysedona.org to see the schedule.

Don’t have plans for Thursday, October 24 and 31? Now you do! At 1:30 p.m. join us for Tai Chi at the Library! This ancient Chinese martial art, led by experienced instructors, helps you gain balance, flexibility, manage pain, and find calm as the class focuses on slow, deliberate movements, deep breathing, and mindfulness. All fitness levels are welcome. (Registration is required for this popular class: visit communitylibrarysedona.org.)

In addition to our regular programs, we’ve recently added a notary public service, and we’re embarking on a telehealth opportunity. Curious about telehealth? The Library is, too. With funding from a new Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant, the Library has telehealth equipment and is developing a program, but needs your input. Do you use telehealth? If so, how is it? If not, why not? Does your doctor encourage telehealth appointments? These are just a few of the questions we’re asking. Please visit the telehealth table on Tuesday, October 29, 2-3 p.m. to learn more and see our new equipment, and share your knowledge, questions, and experience.

Not only do people enjoy the view, the spacious seating, indoors and out, and the incredible services and programs, but many local groups like Rotary clubs and OLLI use the space for meetings and classes. Does your group need a space to meet? Contact me, and I’ll help get your group scheduled.

Aurelia, your Village Library Manager, truly loves working in the Village Library as much as patrons love visiting. “It is a beautiful and bright space with gorgeous red rock views. Children love to come to play, and we offer a community room with special programs for both adults and children.” She adds that patrons often wonder how they managed without this welcoming, multi-use small library branch of Sedona Public Library, because they’re so happy with the new location.

We couldn’t have done all of this without the help of so many wonderful supporters including Clark’s Market. Don’t forget to save your weekend shopping for MONDAY, OCTOBER 14 at Clark’s and help support the Village Library.
