The turkey has been gobbled, the leftovers evenly distributed to friends and loved ones, and we hope that you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Naturally, the end of Thanksgiving marks the unofficial start of the holiday season. Actually, TODAY, kind of kicks things off doesn’t it? No doubt many are already in-line at the checkout aisle ready to pay for a multitude of gifts for friends and loved ones. We do hope that, if you are able, you also contribute to: Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundations’ Holiday Toy Drive. The public is encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped gift for foster youth by December 8th. Sedona Toys For Tots which helps provides gifts for families in the Verde Valley, last day for pick-ups will be Tuesday, December 10. We also have the Verde Valley Caregivers, Holiday Gifts For Seniors, pick up an ornament from the tree and return it with a wrapped gift by December 15. Donation bins are located at the library, and even though we’ll be closed the week of December 2nd; you’ll still be able to donate. The library will make sure of that!
Thank you for being a part of the community and doing your part to make it a better place. Community is a wonderful thing; something that connects us, despite our differences. And community should be celebrated. So, let’s celebrate the only way this library knows how? Remember when we marched in the St. Patrick’s Day parade this year? We were loud! Not just a little loud, but REALLY loud!!! Let’s do it again on Sunday, December 8, at GET LOUD!
Get Loud? At the LIBRARY? Surely you jest? We do not jest, and you ABSOLUTELY should get loud! It’s a perfect reason to – not only will the library GET LOUD, but this will be the BIGGEST library event the Verde Valley has ever seen! From 2 pm – 5 pm we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of our building! Can you believe it? For over 30 years, this library has been serving the community in good times and trying times.
December 8 will be a day of fun for all ages with music from Local Honey – a great time to try out those line-dancing moves you’ve been working on, savor delicious street tacos from Nana’s Tacos, bring out your inner cowpoke and ride a mechanical bull (yes, you read that right! – after signing that waiver form), reenact the Sylvester Stallone cinematic classic Cliffhanger with a rock climbing wall (yes you read that right, too!), hair braiding, live animals, cotton candy, balloon animals, and so much more! It’s me, I’m the more. Just kidding.
The “Afterparty” starts at 3 pm at Sedona Brewing Company’s Basecamp, another great community hang out, where the night continues with live music from 5 to 7 by Rivers Run Wild! This event is guaranteed to be the talk of the Verde Valley – definitely not something anyone will want to miss! So, save the date, mark your calendars, tell your friends, and GET LOUD! Don’t forget to get your new, upgraded library card and when you do, you’ll also get a token for a free beverage and limited-edition glass at the afterparty at Sedona Brewing Company’s Basecamp!
And the best part? It’s all FREE! So, grab the kiddos, grab a friend and plan to be blown away by this epic day of music, adventure, good eats, and community connection as we all GET LOUD at the library! Parking will be at the high school because a big party with a climbing wall, taco truck, and a mechanical bull takes up a lot of space. But don’t worry the shuttle (complete with a magician to entertain passengers on the ride) is free too! (Shuttles run from 2 to 7 pm.)
And while we are getting this amazing community event ready, the library in West Sedona will be closed. Curbside service will still be available on November 30 from 10AM – 4PM and December 2 through December 5 from 10AM to 5PM. Just give us a call at 928-282-7714. WiFi will still be available out in the Commons, and your favorite bookstore in the Verde Valley will be open to scratch your book perusing itch with great 50% OFF deals while we’re closed getting ready for our GET LOUD event!
If you’re still needing physical library services, visit our Village of Oak Creek branch or any of the other neighboring Yavapai County libraries that are only a short drive away. Get out, get loud, and experience the Verde Valley! We’ll see you on December 8! Sedona Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. To make a tax-deductible donation, please visit sedonalibrary.org/donate or send your check to Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336.
