It’s Time to Show Your Library Love

On March 1, Saturday, the 30th Annual Red Rock Quilter’s Quilt Show will come to an end. So, what are you waiting for? Hop in the car, use your chevrolegs, and head on over to take one last look at these marvelous quilts. A highly anticipated event that takes place all of January and February, the quilt show has marveled both the community and visitors in 2025.

Every year the quilt show is a visual feast presented by the partnership between Red Rock Quilters and Community Library Sedona. With over 80 quilts of various sizes, the sheer amount of time and talent that went into each quilt’s creation has to be seen in real life. Quilt categories ranged from large quilts – having a perimeter larger than 251 inches, medium quilts – having a perimeter of 181 inches to 250 inches, and small quilts – having a perimeter of 180 inches or smaller. There was also the category of “Wear, Carry, and Other Quilts” and don’t forget the Challenge Quilts, whose theme this year was “Where Ya From?”

Voting for the best quilts in these categories ended on Valentine’s Day and by the time these words see print, the award ribbons will have been hung! Did you vote? Hope so. Stop in to see which quilts were the winners. Special recognition for the Sedona Quilters Hall of Fame award went to Brenda Andrusyszyn for her quilt, “Endangered Species”, a 45”x61” masterpiece. “This was a color builders project sponsored by Aurifil thread and String & Story Quilts. Each month I received a pattern and three spools of Aurifil thread to use with each specific animal. This quilt represents six of my favorites. I built my thread stash and paper piecing and quilting skills.”

Before the show ends, come in and view:

“Sammy’s Deep Dive” by Bonnie Hubbell, 58”x78” – “My husband picked out and purchased this pattern, which at the time I didn’t notice it was all paper-pieced. I learned quickly how to paper-piece. I’m surprised, but I now love paper-piecing!”

“Icon of the Sonoran Desert” by Magadelna Castillo-Cockrum, 52”x66” – “My husband fell in love with this panel several years ago. I finally pulled it out of my stash and began having fun with its construction. This quilt belongs to my husband. It was his Christmas gift.”

“A Quilter’s Village” by Judy R. Rudi, 42”x58” – “Quilters Market in Tucson offered a block of the month patterns of bldgs. My fabrics of bricks, stones, wood, doors proved very useful in the quilt. Besides Fido’s house, a bird house there is a manor, apartment building, chalet, cottage, school, church, barn, bungalow, library, and Quilt Shop.”

“Petal Fire” by Cyndy Cook, 28”x47” – “This quilt was created for my neighbor & friend Donna Herman. She purchased the panel at a quilt show and asked me to make her a wall hanging. I said yes to an opportunity to practice thread painting and ruler work on my sit-down long arm. More than 20 thread changes were made on this project.”

It takes a village, and this event, in partnership with the Red Rock Quilters has been a wonderful community experience. The Red Rock Quilters is a group of dedicated artists, going strong in the Verde Valley since 1986. Their hard work and planning made this year’s quilt show the best show ever! Quilters were literally beaming as they delivered their quilts, and curious staff and patrons watched with wonder. When the show opened on January 6, we were beaming right along with them. It’s an annual joy to see the Library so alive with such gorgeous art.

It is always a sight to behold, especially in the morning, when the sun shines in, to look up, and be inspired and amazed. Alas all good things must come to an end. It’s a sad day when the show ends and the community can no longer marvel at its favorite quilts. But the Red Rock Quilters are already planning next year’s show. If you haven’t had a chance yet to enjoy the breathtaking beauty and craftsmanship and skill of over 80 amazing hand-crafted quilts on display against the architectural beauty of the library, now is the time to come in. The results are in, the ribbons are hung, so come by and see the winners.
