Volunteers & Participants
The Humane Society of Sedona is in urgent need of volunteers this summer, as many of its regular “snow bird” helpers have migrated to cooler climates. The organization experiences a significant drop in volunteer support during the warmer months and is especially seeking Dog Helper Volunteers and Thrift Store Volunteers, though assistance of any kind is welcome. Even a small commitment of 2–3 hours a week can make a meaningful impact on the lives of homeless animals. Those interested in getting involved can learn more or sign up at https://humanesocietyofsedona.org/volunteer/ or contact Deb Haynes at dhaynes@humanesocietyofsedona.org.
The Hope House of Sedona is currently seeking dedicated board members with experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, or legal expertise to help guide its mission of supporting families experiencing homelessness. Strong leadership is vital to advancing this mission, and individuals with relevant skills who are committed to making a meaningful local impact are encouraged to apply. Those interested in contributing to lasting stability for Sedona families can contact Turiya Weiss at 928-499-5865 or info@hopehouseofsedona.org for more information.
The Rotary Club of Sedona Village is seeking two local families to host an international exchange student during the upcoming school year. Each family would host the student for a three-month period, providing a unique opportunity to foster cross-cultural understanding and lifelong connections. Hosting an exchange student is a rewarding experience that allows families to bring the world into their home. Whether a household includes young children, is an empty nest, or consists of a single adult, a variety of living situations may qualify to participate in the program. Those interested in becoming a host family can contact Jennette Bill at jlbill@outlook.com or 301-1363. To learn more about the program and the Rotary Club, visit sedonavillagerotary.org/.
The Arizona Natural History Association is currently seeking volunteers to assist at the Red Rock Ranger Station Visitor Center. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with visitors exploring the beauty of Sedona, help operate the visitor center store, and provide information about local attractions and activities in the Red Rocks. All necessary training is provided. Shifts are 4 hours long, with morning or afternoon options available based on individual preference. Volunteers are especially needed on Fridays and Saturdays. Those interested are encouraged to contact Sam Carlson, Retail Manager, at scarlson@aznaturalhistory.org or 203-2922.
Sedona Tools Empowering People (STEP) Tool Library is on a roll, with 373 tools loaned out and returned in tip-top shape. This marks a milestone in its mission to support local resident home repair projects, garden makeovers, and seasonal to-do lists. Organizers are encouraging residents to keep the momentum going throughout the summer. In preparation for the fall, STEP is seeking two additional volunteers to assist with Friday tool lending, beginning in September. Interested individuals can contact Peggy Chaikin at steptoollibrary@gmail.com to learn more or sign up. In addition, STEP is currently in need of a carpet cleaner, steam mop, and a folding luggage cart to help to help roll their big sign down to Dry Creek Road. Donations are most welcome.

Preferred materials include metal, glass, tile, or stone; acrylic and plastic will not be accepted. A committee will review all submissions to determine their appropriateness for the KSB garden. The Humane Society of Sedona is asking for community support with its top six most-needed items for July: wet kitten food, wet puppy food, large 55-gallon garbage bags, dish soap, hand soap, and small or medium-sized squeaky toys for the ‘doggies’. Kitten season is really here. The Humane Society of Sedona has been taking in dozens of kittens—sometimes weekly—and while their foster homes and kennels are full, the pantries are empty! Can residents help them keep all the hungry babies fed? To help keep these fosters well-supplied and the babies nourished and clean, the Humane Society of Sedona welcomes donations, which can be shipped or dropped off at 2115 Shelby Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336. For more information, contact Antonio Lopez at alopez@humanesocietyofsedona.org.
