How to Leave a Legacy for Learning and Discovery

Remembering Sedona Public Library in your estate plan secures your legacy while supporting the Library’s important work

Your contribution ensures that books, learning and our libraries will remain an important part of this region’s fabric for generations to come. You do not need to be wealthy to leave a legacy gift. Donations of any size can make a significant impact in providing for the Library’s future.

Types of Legacy Gifts

Bequests

  • A bequest in your will, one of the simplest ways to make a future gift to the Library, can take different forms and be easily modified to address your changing needs. Below is sample language to discuss with your attorney:
    • I give and bequeath the sum of $_____ (or a portion/residue of my estate) to Sedona Public Library, of 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336, to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.

Retirement Assets & Accounts

  • Even if you do not have a will, designating Sedona Public Library as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or bank account provides a meaningful way to support SPL while fulfilling your financial and philanthropic goals. Gifts of assets from qualified plans such as 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, life insurance, or savings and checking accounts can all help leave your legacy. The basic information you need to include SPL as a beneficiary is:
    Legal Name: Sedona Public Library
Address: Development Office, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336
Federal Nonprofit Tax Identification Number: 86-6052627.

Life Insurance

  • Life insurance policies that are no longer needed to secure your family’s financial future may also be contributed. Though this option, you can make an irrevocable gift of an existing policy to SPL, or, alternatively, can name SPL as a beneficiary of a policy held in your name. Issuing a policy in the form of an irrevocable gift qualifies donors for an income tax deduction for the cash value of the policy or the total premiums paid, while naming SPL as a policy beneficiary makes the donor’s estate eligible for a charitable estate tax deduction for the amount passed to SPL.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

  • If you are over 70 1/2 and hold an IRA, you may consider contributing a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to Sedona Public Library or another public charity. QCDs can be counted toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) as long as certain rules are met. Funds must be directly transferred to the charity from the IRA custodian company according to specified deadlines, and special tax filing requirements apply. Consult a tax advisor and your financial institution to determine if making an IRA QCD gift is appropriate for your situation. As of January 26, 2021.

Corporate Support

Sedona Public Library relies on the support of corporate partners to meet the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community.

Sedona Public Library’s role in the community is to nurture and encourage everyone in the community to fulfill their potential by providing them with free resources and opportunities to pursue their educational objectives, realize their potential and grow their businesses. Sedona Public Library reaches thousands of residents and visitors each year through a diverse range of public programs, events and classes that offer unique sponsorship and employee engagement opportunities. Whether you are interested in providing capital support, underwriting a specific program or attending our annual fundraiser, Novel Night, corporate partners receive a range benefits that can be tailored to meet your company’s unique goals and interests while providing critical support for the library.

Whether you are a longstanding corporate partner or you are considering joining SPL for the first time, we look forward to working with you.

Campaign Sponsorship

SPL hosts two annual giving campaigns: End of Year and Library Giving Day that are excellent opportunities for visibility and  engagement while supporting the vital work of one of Sedona’s most important community organization.

Novel Night

Each autumn, we host the Library event of the year. A unique and inspiring opportunity to host or attend a book-themed costume dinner party. The event celebrates the extraordinary contributions of individuals and corporate partners and raises significant funds to support Sedona Public Library in the Village.

Public Programs

SPL hosts more than 800 public programs each year including after-school tutoring and adult classes, author readings, outdoor celebrations, film screenings, visual art exhibitions, music, dance, and theater performances, and business and entrepreneurial forums. Our program funders enjoy benefits such as naming rights, speaking opportunities, logo placement, invitations to exclusive events, and opportunities for employee volunteerism. Corporate support helps underwrite many public programs including:

Summer Reading is SPL’s signature program to promote reading and prevent “summer slide,” the loss of children’s academic skills during the summer months. SPL hosts dozens of programs over the summer with more than 140 attendees.

Capital Support

Sedona Public Library will soon embark on an exciting large-scale, carefully phased, capital project at the West Sedona Library. The Children’s areas and new meeting rooms will be a few of opportunities that we will offer for naming and other recognition.

Matching Gifts

You can double your impact. Many employers, past or present, have a matching gift program and when you make a gift to a non-profit, the company will give the same. One hundred percent of both donations will support SPL’s programs and services. Learn if your employer has a matching gift policy.

In-Kind Giving

SPL welcomes many kinds of in-kind donations including technology and furniture as well as refreshments, promotional/media support and in-kind printing services.
